The Galerie du Château d'Avenches welcomes visual artist Jeanne Schmid
Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, Jeanne Schmid began her career as a sculptor, exploring line as a tool for defining space for ten years. Then a tragic car accident turned her life and her art upside down. After several years of personal quest, she redefined her artistic language by integrating photography, video and audio. In 2012, her video installation États d'âmes won a grant from the Swiss Federal Department of Culture. Her multimedia practice now supports her pictorial and sculptural research, with a marked concern for the environment. At the same time, she has taken up painting and regularly exhibits in Switzerland. Since 2012, she has taken part in several residencies and artistic projects across Europe. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the Musée de Montreux, as well as several private collections.
Following a week's residency in Avenches in August 2024, the artist will exhibit a series of drawings based on charcoal prints on tissue paper (captured on site, in and around the Gallery, inside and out). There will also be paintings (oil, tempera, ink, pastel, pigments), objects and micro-installations in cardboard-stone or cardboard-earth.
