The Gallic past of Avenches is revealed through objects of daily life.
Avenches the Roman, its arenas, its theatre and its rampart, are known to almost everyone. In the absence of remains prior to the conquest, the idea had taken hold in people's minds that the town of Aventicum had been founded by the Romans on a practically uninhabited territory.
However, this is not the case! Recent excavations have made it possible to definitively throw out this idea. We now know that a large Gallic settlement developed in Avenches. Excavation sites have followed one another, revealing some of these long-buried secrets. This exhibition is an opportunity to reveal some of these secrets to the public.
